When it comes to aerial climbs, not all are created equal!
Some help you gain height quickly and efficiently, while others can feel a little more like climbing through quicksand. You’re working hard, but somehow not getting very far. 😅
Every climb has its place, but today I’m highlighting three creative climbs that are both fun and effective for gaining height:
✨Candlestick Climb ✨Statue Climb ✨Teardrop Climb
⤵️ Watch the video below to see each one in action and discover which climb might be the best fit for your training.
Candlestick Climb (Int/Adv) - See a full tutorial on APTV here
Begin with the silk on your left side.
Hook your right knee.
Reach your right arm up high.
Bend your left knee toward your chest.
Thread your left knee through.
Place the outside of your left foot against the pole.
Lean to the side.
Extend your free leg upward.
Flex your foot to create the candlestick position.
Release your hands if you feel secure.
To gain height, grab the pole and release your top foot.
Reach hands high, lengthen your bottom leg to stand up.
Release the silk from your feet and repeat!
Statue Climb (Beg/Int) - See a full tutorial on APTV here
Crochet both feet.
Cross the silks twice behind your back.
Flip your grip so your thumbs point up.
Hold the tails and poles together.
Open your legs into a straddle.
Extend one leg up until your foot meets the pole.
Move through a single-leg bird’s nest position.
Come into a seated position.
Reach your hands up high.
Bend your knees.
Place one foot into the silks.
Extend the opposite leg behind you.
Pull up.
Bring your feet together to create the statue shape.
Reach your arms up high to gain height.
Pull up to invert and crochet your feet.
Cross ankles and squeeze your inner thighs together.
Release the tails (or release one hand at a time)
Repeat by crossing the silks behind your back again
Teardrop Climb (Int) - See a full tutorial on APTV here
Pike through the center of the silks.
Hook one knee at a time on one silk.
The hand that is under the knees reaches across to the opposite side high above your other hand.
The bottom hand reaches up on the same side silk.
Squeeze your heels toward your bum as you grab the tail with your thumb pointing down
Create a loop (the teardrop) with the tail and meet it with the same side pole.
Place one foot inside the loop.
Extend the opposite leg outward into a split position.
Pull up and you cross your thighs and sit on your heel.
Release the tail.
Reach your hands up high.
Stand up to gain height.
