Jill's Content Creation Process!

If I had to attest one key ingredient to success, do you know what that'd be?

Consistency! It's mundane yet requires a ton of motivation. No wonder why it can be challenging to keep up with it.

Whether it's a skill you're working on, a habit you're aiming to acquire or break, building your social media following, or even a full-on business - consistency is one of the secret ingredients.

Over the past ten years, I've been consistent when it comes to all things Aerial Physique. If you ask my husband, he'll probably say I've been obsessed! I've learned that seasons of obsession are sometimes required to reach big goals.

One question I get asked often is - how have I been able to show up consistently and grow my @aerialphysique Instagram following to over 130k?

Welp, there are many factors, but the main ones are, you guessed it, consistency, the discipline to show up despite feeling like an imposter at times and planning ahead.

If you're curious about my step-by-step content creation process along with all the apps I use to edit, add music and plan - click the link below to check it out.

STEP 1 - BRAINSTORM IDEAS

I keep a running list of ideas in a Google Sheet. Sometimes ideas pop into my mind when I'm teaching (or while I'm trying to fall asleep!) and other times, I plan out 'brainstorm sessions' to get my wheel turnings about the content I'll create. I get many ideas from common questions aerialists ask and common mistakes I notice.

STEP 2 - DECIDE & PLAN

I aim to work 1-2 months ahead with my content. That way I can work from a place of creativity instead of feeling frazzled. I look at my Google Sheet, choose the ideas that resonate and jot them down on a calendar. When it comes to planning, I'm very much a pen and paper person! Since I now split my time between Nashville & LA I have to be very strategic about what I'm going to create and stick to it.

STEP 3 - CHOOSE SILKS & OUTFIT COLORS

When it comes to filming day, I choose my outfits and silk colors in advance. I have a chest of outfits at the studio so it eliminates having to pack a ton when I travel back and forth.

STEP 4 - PREP TRIPOD & SILKS

For social media content, I do all of my own filming. For APTV and our courses my husband does. I set up a simple tripod at the studio that I got on Amazon (click here to grab yours) and I typically film between 9am - 2pm when the natural light is great.

STEP 5 - ACTION!

I film the technique tip, skill or sequence with my six takes rule. I aim not to allow myself to do it more than six times. One of those takes will be good enough! Otherwise, I'll spend hours on one video and not accomplish anything!

STEP 6 - EDIT

I use two apps for my editing depending on the complexity of the video. My go-to is Videoshop and I also like using Vixer. I typically do a lot of my editing at airports and on the plane! Most technique tips take around 30-60 minutes to edit.

STEP 7 - MUSIC

I try to use royalty free music, that way my videos don't get flagged. Uppbeat.io is a great option for this. Vixer also has built in royalty free music. The music that Insta provides sometimes doesn't match the skill, isn't long enough or too distracting, it depends!

STEP 8 - CAPTION

This part can take the longest for me! Especially given the caption limit on IG. I've had to get very skilled at saying only the necessary in a very clear way.

STEP 9 - SCHEDULE & SHARE!

I use an app called Planoly to schedule my posts. While they do have an automated feature, I share manually around 8 am on the days that I post, which is usually 4-5 days per week.

So there you have it! When it comes to content being consistent, having a plan, batch-working are all keys to success. Happy creating :)
