There's something about open hammock that is magically beautiful but getting into it can definitely be finicky! You know the feeling when you're trying to find the edge or center of the silk? Um ya, it can sometimes be more challenging than the skill itself!
Aerial Physique teacher Nafeesa breaks down her favorite way to get into open hammock without the fuss.
See below for a video & step-by-step breakdown.
Step 1: Unravel the hammock and make sure it isn’t twisted.
Step 2: Sit in the hammock.
Step 3: Find the edges of the hammock on one side. In this example, we’re opening it on the left. Pull the edges apart. This part might take time!
Step 4: Grab the edge that is closest to you with your left hand, and grab the right pole with your right hand.
Step 5: Lean back and lift your left leg up straight. Place the foot on the left side of the hammock, close to the edge farthest from you. Press the foot down as your hips lift up. Pull the hammock over your hips with your left hand as you place your right leg into the hammock.
Step 6: Press your legs down and reach your arms back for dolphin pose!
Step 7: To exit, sit up and grab edges. Walk your legs out of the opposite opening.
COMMON MISTAKES:
Mistake 1: Not lifting your hips. This won’t give the hammock room to open.
Mistake 2: Not keeping the lifting leg straight. This makes it difficult to open the hammock smoothly.
Mistake 3: Forgetting to place both legs into the hammock.
Mistake 4: Not pulling the hammock over the hip bones. This makes the dolphin pose unstable.
